Originally inspired by the Big Daddy character played by Burl Ives in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Big Daddy is about the father complex, specifically when a father or any leader is overly endowed with power. Jung said that the only way to be free from a complex is to live it out fully to its completion. I am painting it out to its end. This is an inner dialogue series documenting Big Daddy’s reckoning with himself, projected onto the repeating figure of a silverback gorilla. This series is shown in order of execution and is ongoing.
